An online survey late last year of 283 academics belonging to the Political Studies Association put Mr Brown well ahead of his predecessors."

  1. Well if their idea of a good economy is loads of people borrowing a shed load of money against the increasing price of their homes without any justifiable means of paying it back, then he is.

And did anyone mention the Gold he sold off to the Chinese at rock bottom prices.

  2. This only points to him being the best of the worst, as we have never had a 'good' chancellor, don't forget they have a huge margin to play with but the people have always to pay, they have crippled this country by doing away with our heavy industry, and placing a lot of tax on us, we tend to pride our selves on our 'free' NHS, the NHS is not free, and not good, it is a gravy train for Monsanto, Merck and Haliburton who make billions from it, it was never meant to make you well, just keep you going as a paying client.  There's an old saying:  'When can you tell when a Government Representative is lying to you?    Answer: 'They're lips are moving'.

  3. His immediate predecessor was a better one.

In 1993, I really thought John Major was scraping the barrel after the disastrous effort by Norman Lamont.

Kenneth Clarke actually turned a serious economic crisis round and still had time to present a jazz programme, and really set up Gordon Brown to continue much the same policies for quite a while.

  4. Who are these 283 experts? African ostriches? Harold MacMillan accused Margaret Thatcher of "selling the family silver" when she privatised the coal and railway industries. Gordon, literally, sold the family gold. Enough said.

  5. Could well be right but he is a bloody awful PM. You would expect him and his ministers to be back in Parliament trying to see what can be done to improve the economy.

  6. Oh yes, record taxation for minimal improvments in public services,  Gold reserves sold at lowest possible price, the best private pensions system in europe destroyed.  Typical socialist bumbling idiot, but never mind the tories will come and put it right again, as per usual.

  7. These so called 283 financial academics are probably thinking long term! Can I get a job as Gordon Brown's adviser on financial affairs!

Haven't we  got enough  cronies and toady's! bowing and scraping to this financial megalomaniac!Without 283 more!

This man Gordon Brown will go down in  British political history as the worst since Lord North 200 years ago!

All it amounts to is 283 misguided academics giving aid and succour to a failed Chancellor and Prime Minister!

Lets see what the Labour Party Conference brings out!Other than sharp political knives!

  8. at what ?

    wrecking the Pensions System ?

number of new Stealth taxes ?

    Stupidest gold sale ?

    largest house price bubble ?

largest amount of money wasted ?

    Do tell us !

  9. Expert - lets look at this, ex =someting that was. Spert =drip under pressure. Says it all really.

  10. Which expert?

    Mrs Brown?

  11. Really??? He sold most of our gold reserves when the price was at rock bottom, not even a mediocre high school economics student would do that.

  12. Yes but they are experts and that says it all. The general public think otherwise.

  13.   Do these academics live on the Basic Wage. Job Seekers Allowance, State Pension, or any other low income. NO.

These supposed experts probably spend more on a meal out, then

people on low income get in a week.

  14. Which Experts?

Are these Experts part of Gordon Browns Inner Circle?

Or are they the work of Mr Browns PR, ADVISORS?

  15. No. Three little words-spend,boom,bust.

"But as one columnist pointed out in The Times, many of those polled are Labour supporters, therefore implying the potential for some bias in the results"--- Says it all.

  16. No.

As to the "experts" - ex is something that has been and sp(u)ert is a drip under pressure!!

  17. I think the earlier answers have summed up my thoughts.  But we should remember many of these so called experts are living comfortable lives and

are often removed from reality. Many banking experts in following their greed have lost their precious banks billions.  Politicians can always find the 'right kind of expert' to support them. And all too often bleating New Labour ministers cry, "but the experts told me'.  Truly pathetic....But that is New Labour.

  18. "Experts" also tell us that the UK is now the most expensive country in Europe to live in.

I am sure that is in part down to our last Chancellor.

Success is not only measured by National growth. For many years he claimed a national growth but all I can remember of those years was that there were cuts, cuts and more cuts in services.

  19. Most people can be successful when times are good. Experts have short memories and can only remember the recent good times. Two better ones come to mind: John Simon (1937-40) and Kingsley Wood (1940-43). Both benefitted from the advice of Keynes. Brown is the longest serving since Gladstone, but most of the growth during his time came from the economic growth the world saw, largely as a result of the trade boom generated by China and the technological advances driven by IT. If Brown were in charge today, we would still be in a mess. Remember he presided over the period when UK banks were allowed to buy into junk securities. Now they are coming home to roost. Not a good record.

  20. He was a good Chancellor. Better Chancellor than Prime Minister.

  21. The link is to an article dated March 2007 almost 18 months ago Wonder what those same "experts" would say now.Even before the credit crunch etc. I never bought the idea that Gordon Brown was the best Chancellor the UK has ever had.Chancellors no more create wealth than any other Bank Manager. They preside over the economic activity created by others.

  22. Remember the experts who told us we were all going to die from CJD. The numbers of CJD victims have not altered over the last 12 years. Remember the experts who talked down the MMR jab. Measles have increased rapidly since people listened to the Experts. Remember the experts who told us Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. If you listen to so called experts you would believe Gordon is "The Man." I certainly don't He could have put proper credit controls in place at the start of his time as Chancellor but he gave the power over to the Bank of England. Look where that got us. He was a disaster as Chancellor and he is a whimp as Prime Minister. Have a nice day
