Hes bout to come home, so getting a new POA is out. I completely spaced getting a new ID done b4 he left, and while the poa was still good. We moved home while he was deployed, so never really used the ID so it just slipped my mind. Do I have to have a POA to get a new ID, or will my old ID be good enough for it? will his orders be enough? grrrr, my only other option is to be a guest with someone to get on base when he gets home.

  1. You have to have special POA jsut for getting an ID.  A general POA will not work.  It doesn't matter how much identification you have or if you are in DEERS.  If you don't have a Special POA for getting ID, you can't get one.  You will have to wait until he returns from his deployment and he can escort you to get an ID card.  Contact his unit or FRG and they can help you get a pass to get on base but they can't get you an ID card.

  2. If you know the # to the ID card section on your post or military installation, I would call them, because one person says you need a POA and I say you don;t, that all you have to do is tell them your hubby is deployed. So I guess it all depends on the ID card facility on your post in your area.

FYI: you can get on base with your old ID but the gate guard may take it and then tell you to go directly to the ID card facility. (If you live off post)

  3. Contact your unit's ombudsman.  She can contact whoever is providing stateside support for the unit and they may be able to contact the ID office you'll need to go to and get them the paperwork.  As long as you're still in DEERS and have your expired ID and other identification with you and the ID office can get the paperwork from the command support team proving that you are entitled to an ID you should have no problem.

  4. Your husband can get you a new POA even when he is deployed.  Tell him you need a POA for an ID card.  It may take a while coming through the mail, but it will make your life easier.  Your TriCare benefits are tied to your ID card.  Call TriCare to confirm your enrollment in their system.

  5. You need a specific POA in order to get your ID renewed without the AD member there.  Your old ID will not be good enough at all.   You will also need 2 forms of ID when you get your new one even if he is with you.

You can contact the FRG and find out if they can help you out because this isn't the first time it has happened.  Otherwise you will have to wait until he returns to get it.

  6. When i left, my husband needed a power of attorney to get a new ID card.  If you know anyone in the FRG they should be able to sign you in to post and then go to the ID card section and ask or you could call them and ask them what you need and explain your situation.

  7. Your expired ID and a drivers license along with a set of his orders should be enough since you have an Id already and are enrolled in DEERS.  That is the data base that holds all your administrative information as a dependent.  They might want to take your ID card at the gate so stop off at the visitors center and ask them to give you a hand receipt for it indicating it is expired if they won't let you have it to take with you to customer service.
