Keep in mind this is my 1st car. So, I just go pulled over by the police for expired tags. He said that my tags had expired four days ago which was probably my birth date (he was right, my birthday was on the 4th). I know I have to renew my tags BUT I didn't know that I had to renew my tags on my birth date every year AND I didn't get a renewal notice in my mail. My question is..

If I go to court, is there a chance that the judge will not make me pay this ticket if I explain my mistake. I've had a drivers license for 8 years and have never had one ticket for anything. This was really a mistake and I don't have the money to pay for the ticket and my tags which is only 4 days expired.

Pay for the tags &amp; get an extension on the ticket. They will usually give you 30 days extension.

Sorry, but expired is expired. Your police department may be checking closer on registrations and not giving any slack.
