Expired Green Card

Hi, can you help my partners has been living in florida since 1991, he

has just arrived here in the UK for 3 weeks and whilst sorting thru his

paperwork his green card has expired - trouble is, he read it as

expiring 2010, it actually expired 2001 !!! and has a return ticket to

go home to be back at work, what on earth does he do now ??? Help

please ASAP> thanks

  1. He flies back home with the expired green card. The airlines have been informed that they can accept returning residents with expired green cards. A carrier notice was issued on September 10, 1999, notifying all carriers to permit boarding to any bona fide LPR in possession of an expired I-551 with a ten-year expiration date.

    When he arrives back in the U.S., he'll be advised to apply for a new card with CIS. No further action should be taken.
