Explain How Science Inquiry is more than an inch deep.?

So one told me that direct instruction is a mile long and an inch deep and Science Inquiry is not. Explain.

  1. When you write "Explain", I figure that you've just copied an essay question from your homework.  

    But anyways, direct instruction is simply telling someone something - not very deep, right?

    Scientific inquiry means exploring the issue to understand what is happening and why, using experiments and the scientific method.  This is a deeper explanation that gives a deeper understanding, no?

    It's the difference between giving someone a fish, and teaching them to fish.
