Explain Tsunami Prediction for a Child?

if you could please explain in terms that a 10 year old will understand:

is there a way that scientists predict tsunamis? how? is it effective?

  1. Tsunamis are underwater earthquakes. If the epicentre, the region under the Earth's crust where the earthquake begins, is intense, then the odds of having a tsunami is likely. Like earthquakes that happen on the continent, they're not very easy to predict although they tend to happen along a fault line. That would be similar in the ocean. Where there is likely to have two tectonic plates moving against each other or where one side lifts on top of another, this produces enough energy to have an earthquake and possibly a tsunami.
