    I guess you are wandering how exactly the batteries can affect the environment.

    I'll have to introduce you to a "Greenpeace" website that will explain to you how it's not good to leave mercury batteries.

    To resume, it's not an element good for your health when they are in the concentration found in batteries. Also, they are not good for animals and plants. Therefore it become a hazard.

  2. Have to admit I'm stumped on that one.  You would think a battery with toxic chemicals in it dumped in a landfill somewhere where it can eventually leach into the ground water would be no biggie.
