  1. as i remember when i got this topic in my bio lecture, root nodules & bacteria rhizobia have a mutualistic relationship. The plant needs nitrogen as part of the daily nutrient. But the problem is it can't grab directly from the airborne by itself. So the plant needs the help from certain bacteria which has an ability to take nitrogen straightly from the air. So that's why they attach to each other. The advantage of the plant is having the nitrogen that it needs, the advantage of the bacteria is having shelter for living.
