  1. within my own family ie father, mother and 4 sisters, my father was in charge.  he brought the bread, mum minded us and the home.  thats patrilineal.  

    but we live in an extended family with grandma being in charge of the clan.  so within the clan its matrilineal.  and there are many such societies in the world.  in africa and esp in minangkabau, sumatra where women own everything, decide everything until the change their religion and the society underwent  changes too.  its still to a large extent matrilineal.

    when those relatives from my mum side interfered and my dad's side too - that's messy and that is in some ways bilateral esp when we make decisions trying to accomodate the 2 grps.

    nuclear family is the least complicated
