Media another reason. If question not sarcasm. The Media keeps telling people that other parties have no chance that a after the vote for someone else is wasted. Other people say the electoral system where it appears Senators choose people is a fault  as the Senators vote for people in turn. Maybe it works in another fashion each Senator votes once on an issue.
