Explain the Placidus House System

Ok, I'm familiar with astrology, and believe this house system to be very accurate.... but where do they figure out these divisions? Can someone explain this, in simple terms? tia

  1. Not here, since it is an astrology feature.

    It pretends that something like the length and orientation of the sun's shadow will influence your life.

    Actually, it is an unequal division of "houses" which are the representation of the constellations as if they matched the astrological months and as if precession had never existed.

    Developed by Placidus (1688), while astronomy and astrology were parting ways (the formal split came with Newton's use of gravity to explain the movement of planets among the fixed stars).

    The unequal widths depend on the latitude (houses being almost equal for observers at the equator). It is sometimes used in conjunction with the "orientation" of the Sun's plane of illuminance (or some such rot), leading to my (quasi-)joke about the length of the sun's shadow.
