Pls I need help figuring aout the order of the US education system and the ages u start them. Whta is pre-school? is it different fomr kindergarten? and is there something as a "pre-kinder"?? In my country this is how it usually goes:

when u are 3 u can go or not to a "maternal" , 4 years old to "pre-kinder" , 5 to kinder, 6 u start elementary school...

Also, which one do you have to pay for, and when does it start as a "public education system"?

Im interested more in the school part, not the daycare information please, thank you!

  1. I hope this helps:

There are places that are called day cares which  usually go from any where  from 6 weeks of age to 6 years of age.

Preschools depending on the program can start at the age of 2 years to 6 years of age.  It depends on the program and in the area the preschool. Preschools are a program which do cost parents money depending on the area, and how many days the child goes.  Usually preschools have "free time" where the children can pick from areas to work (play) like a reading center, tables that have activites on them, block areas, etc.  The one I worked in allowed children the free time in the morning until about 10:15 am. Then it was a story, snack time, then outside time until lunch. Then the children could play either in or out until rest time. In the afternoon there were more activities for the children do to, and a reading/ music time then pick up.

Kindergarten age usually starts (depending on where) around age 5 years.  I live in Oregon and the rule is the child should be 5 before September 1st.  But the parent can petition the school if the child is going to be five soon after that date. The parents can wait until the child is 6 to start kindergarten if they want.  Kindergarten is the start of public school, and no more paying for school.

    Hope that helps

  2. Preschool generally runs from ages 2-6, the preschool where i teach has a 3 year old class and a 4 year old class. , in my state the cut off date for a child to enter Kindergarten is Sept 1, so we use that cut off date for our students as well.  At some schools, they will call the 4 year old class Pre-K or Pre-Kindergarten; but it is not really different, at most school.  There are some preschool programs that are free, but they may not be available in every area, or only available for low-income families.  Otherwise parents pay for preschool.   Not all students attend preschool.

Students start Kindergarten at the age of 5, or in some states 4 1/2 depending on the states cut off date and then will proceed through elementary school, generally K-5; middle school/junior high 6-8; then high school 9-12.

It is the parents choice to send them to a public education from K-12, unless the district offers preschool, or send them to a private school, where they have to pay for schooling.  Parents also have the option of holding their child back a year before they start Kindergarten, if they don't feel like they are ready to start school yet.

  3. In the US pre school is run between the ages of 2 to 6 years old

  4. I just want to add that kindergarten is not public in the entire country, although it is moving that way.  Preschool is public in some places as well.  Kindergarten can be half day or full day and I believe that some do not go for the full week (e.g. no school on Fridays).
