  1. Genotype tells you the genetic constitution of an organism at a locus... for instance, something that is heterozygous has a genotype of two different alleles -- e.g., IA IB (human blood groups).  Genotype is typically expressed in symbols.

Phenotype is the outward appearance of characteristics caused by the genotype -- so in the case of the human blood group above, someone who is IA IB has type AB blood.  Phenotype is a product of both the alleles present in the organism and the environment -- for instance, you might have alleles for freckles -- but if you never go out in the sun or aren't exposed to UV light, you won't develop freckles.

  2. GENotype is the gene sequence....what we usually show as the letter code ( to differentiate between the recessive and dominant allele..or version of a gene)....eg Gg, HH, pp

THe PHenotype is like a PHotograph....its what you actually see ( or happens) in the organism...eg dimple present/absent, disease present/absent etc....

  3. Genotype is the genetic information that codes for the phenotype, and the phenotype is the traits that something has. For example a flower may have the genotype Rr that leads to the phenotype of a pink flower, the genotype RR a red flower, and the genotype rr a white flower. This is also an example of incomplete dominance!

  4. Phenotype is the physical expression of the genotype.

  5. Phenotype is determined by the genotype.  The genes are the genotype of organisms.  If you look at any animal, you see the phenotype.  The phenotype is the physical characteristics of an organism, like the color of a dog's coat.
