  1. positive ion--if u know ion is the charge particle

therefore if a substance has a positive ion it means the substance looses electron & make positive ion

while if a substance gains electron it means it make anegative ion.

    ex--HCl------H(+ION) + Cl(-ion)

  2. An ion is an atom (or molecule) that has an unequal number of protons and electrons.  Since protons carry a charge of +1 and electrons carry a charge of -1, the net charge of the particle is determined by the taking number of protons and subtracting the number of electrons.

If there are more electrons than protons, there will be a negative net charge, and the ion is referred to as a negative ion.

Conversely, if there are more protons than electrons, there will be a positive net charge, and the ion is referred to as a positive ion.

  3. Ions are charged particles, often charged atoms, so a positive ion is a positively charged atom, and a negative ion is a negatively charged atom. An uncharged atom contains equal numbers of protons and electrons, which have positive and negative charge, respectively, so they cancel out.

An atom can become positively charged if it loses an electron, such as by beta-decay or by chemical reactions, and it can become negatively charged if it loses protons, for example by alpha-decay.

  4. When an atom or molecule (which is nuetral earlier b/c of same no of electron and protons) gains an electron it becomes  -ve ion(b/c now electron exceeds protons) and when it looses electron it becomes +ve ion(b/c electrons are lesser than protons)

In simple words ion is a chemical specie which have charge on it due to loss or gain of electron.

-ve (anion) ion() is an ion having -ve charge on it and +ve ion (cation) is an ion having +ve charge.

  5. An atom or group of atoms that has acquired a net electric charge by accepting or donating electrons is called an ion.

Positive ion is the atom or group of atoms(compounds) that has donated electrons from its outermost shell. And as the number of electrons and protons is equal, thus, number of electrons becomes less and protons becomes more(due to its donation of electrons)therefore giving it a positive charge( protons have a positive charge on them)

Negative is an atom or group of atom which has accepted electrons. Thus, its number of electrons becomes more than that of protons(as it has accepted electrons)thus giving it a negative charge(electrons have a negative charge on them)

  6. An ion is a positively or negatively charged atom or group of atoms. An ionic compound is held together by attractive forces that exist between a positive and negative (an example of this would be a magnet, having two ends one is negative and the other is positive its like that). A cation is a positively charged ion. A anion is a negatively charged ion. A good way to remember this is "what does a CAT have? PAWS? so CATION for POSITIVE, and after you get that ANION is NEGATIVE. hope this helps (: I'm studying chemistry and learned a few tricks.
