  1. The structure of an enzyme is very complex. First of all, the primary structure is the sequence of amino acids that makes up the protein. Secondary structure is the shape of specific regions of the enzyme, where the chain spirals or pleats like a sheet. Tertiary structure is the overall structure of the enzyme, the specific arrangement in 3D space. Because of this specific shape, and due to the different interactions between the amino acids, the shape of the enzyme is rigid enough to only allow certain molecules into the active site, but repelling others because they don't fit. Because this is in 3D, the enzyme is very specific.
