Eplore the idea of rotteness in Hamlet and explain the significance in this quotation to the play as a whole.

can anyone answer this question? I'm a little stuck.

    its the idea that the state is becoming rotten, as rot spreads from the inside out-the king being the centre of the state and therefore the cause of the problem.

    its hamlet working out that something really isnt right in Denmark- the corruption of the king who murdered his brother   and married his sister-in-law in order to gain the throne.

    it can also be Hamlet alluding to his decomposing father who was recently buried and therefore a commentry on his mothers rapid remarriage.

    it foreshadows later events. the concept of a rotting state runs throughout the play there are hundreds of quotes
