You are scuffing your slippers across a very thick carpet. When you reach to turn on the TV, you see a spark jump from your finger to the TV.

  1. The carpet due to the friction with your slippers, will 'Charge' the slippers with 'Static Electricity' from the Ionisation of the carpet material. These Ions are picked up by your body and will be stored until it is 'Discharged' to another body or object as a 'Spark' of electricity.

    (When brushing or combing your hair with a nylon or plastic brush or comb, your hair will stand on end and become frizzy for the same reason.... Friction).
