The carpet due to the friction with your slippers, will 'Charge' the slippers with 'Static Electricity' from the Ionisation of the carpet material. These Ions are picked up by your body and will be stored until it is 'Discharged' to another body or object as a 'Spark' of electricity.

(When brushing or combing your hair with a nylon or plastic brush or comb, your hair will stand on end and become frizzy for the same reason.... Friction).

The process of rubbing something transfers charge from one body to another. When you are scuffing your slippers on the carpet you're transferring charge from the carpet to your body. The presence of the excess charge is what causes the spark.
