  1. The best things in life are things that have been around the longest??

  2. Seems to be pretty self-explanatory to me.

Old wood best to burn -- old, thoroughly dried out wood burns bright and clean in a fireplace as compared to new, green wood which is too damp to burn well

old wine to drink -- fine wines get better as they age and mature

old friends to trust -- well, this should need no explanation

old authors to read -- the classics of literature are better than the modern c**p being written today

IOW, old things are better than new.
