For example, I'm not sure about exact number but i think that Fernando Torres went to Liverpool for a transfer fee of 25 million euros. My questions are.. who gets the transfer fee? can a player refuse a transfer?? are soccer players signed to contracts like people in American sports? (3 years/27 million)

  1. First of all, the transfer fee is fixed by the club that possesses the player. If the team interested thinks the fee is too high, they can propose a lower one and the other tea night sometimes accept. And yes, a player can refuse to go to a certain team especially if the team  he's in just wants to get rid of him even though the contract is not over yet.

And usually, when players are transfered, they are told the amount of money they'll get a year and then the amount they'll get a week.

  2. Football transfers are like buying and selling things at a market, if the price is reasonable for both parties then the player can be sold. However the buying club most offer the player a contract that he feels is reasonable, if the player doesnt like the contract or the buying club in general then he in no way is forced to accpet, therefore the contract would not go through.

  3. Players are signed to contracts just like American athletes, but there are some differences. There is no draft system in Europe so a good young player can play for any team that will meet his wage demands, he is not forced to play for a weak team as they are in America.  Also when a players contract is up he is considered a free agent no matter how old he is or how long he has played in the league. I believe it is different in America.

    Hope this helps.
