Explain what this quote means please...?

"You have to go there to know there," This quote is from the book their eyes were watching god, and i need some help explaining it. So far the only thing i came up with was you have to experience it yourself to know how it is. Any other definitions?

    to know about that somewhere

  4. It means that in order to understand a culture you have to be  a part of that culture and experience it for yourself!
