  1. very interesting question.. a few words before my answer...

All governments are insisting to put details before an establishment in order to know the details by the public..

This includes to grossary shops, grain shops, eatable oil shops in which the price of each item can be seen by the public.  It is interestingly, more vegetable shops also put details of price of each vegetables..   This is for to help the general public.  Surprisingly,  if an item costs more than another shop, they say it is grade 1 item..  there may be some interesting responses..

    now my answer...

in some restarants or hotels,  we can see a black board in which a detailed list of eatable items available while you are entering. This is an information for the customers to see and it is easy for them to order for those snacks.  In some more restarents, they will give a menu paper and you can go thr' and order.  The menu is intended the customers to select items where they inform with prices too.  They can order according to their tastes and purse.  This is the motivation of of a menu in an establishment.

  2. What would be the alternative?  Do you think customers should just come in and order whatever they feel like eating?  How could any restaurant kitchen stock a myriad of food items in unknown quantities? ...  And, wouldn't YOU like to know the prices of items before you order them?

  3. would you shop somewhere if you didn't know what they had?

  4. it also sets the theme for the place, is it fine dining or pub snacks... it all gives the customer an idea of what they are going to get.  Loads of people will look at a menu first before deciding to dine at a particular establishment.

Plus if there was no menu people would either order stupid stuff or not order at all (thinking no food was on offer).

  5. I would hate to be the waitress or waiter who worked at any establishment that did not have a menu.  They would have to go through every item they sell to every customer. The menu lets you see what they have to offer so you can choose.

  6. good food is what makes an establishment. a good menu brings customers. but theres no point having a good menu unless you have a good chef who can cook good meals consistently
