  1. How do they make jewelry out of gold and silver? Those metals are malleable/soft enough to be heated and bent...drawn out into wires, loops, rings, strands, etc. without breaking.  As are other metals too, but the reason they choose to use gold, silver, platinum etc. is that those metals are pretty and valuable, and not easily tarnished.  They are chemically rather inert, so they last a long time.  Also, pure gold is too soft for jewelry.  It will dent and bend too easily.  So, they mix it with silver to add hardness.
