  1. we have to incubate the petri dish in an incubator at certain temperature which is sometimes higher than the normal room temperature,so dew dops start to accumulate on the lid...so if the petri dish in kept in an erect position the dew drops will fall in the culture medium and can alter the results..so to prevent the culture medium frm getting contaminated with dew drops the plate is kept in an inverted position


  2. To prevent condensation dripping from the lid onto the bacterial culture. This can disrupt the normal growth patterns, and can interfere with correct determinations.
