  1. 1 an atom is only one  while a molecule is composed of two or more atoms

2 if you take the amount of heat in the kettle and transfer it to the volume of water in the swimming pool, it will not be able to heat the pool to the same temperature as the water in the kettle. therefore the amount of heat in the swimming pool is greater than the amount of heat in the kettle although the temperature is not the same.

    3. when SO2 gas reaches the clouds, it mixes with water vapor and creates H2SO4 which is sulfuric acid. sulfuric acid is a nasty acid that huts plants and animals when it gets in contact with them.

    4. water molecules are polar because they are made of 1 oxygen and 2 hydrogen atoms. the oxygen is slightly negative while the hydrogen is slightly positive. the result is 2 poles one negative and one positive. Hydrogen is known to form hydrogen bonds with three other atoms ONF (oxygen, Nitrogen and Fluoride)  in this case hydrogen atoms in water molecules form hydrogen bonds with oxygen atoms on other water molecules. Hydrogen bonds provide another way for energy to be stored. As heat is added to the substance, some of that energy goes into breaking the bonds rather than simply raising the temperature. The more places a molecule has to deposit energy (degrees of freedom), the higher the heat capacity.

  2. There is no need for me to repaet answers. The answer above mine is correct. 1, 2, 3 are correct.

Addition: 2.) You need to loo at the specific heat of water. Which raising the the water by 1deg C / gram. So, the pool has a lot more water than a tea kettle => more heat.

Addition: 3.) Since the precipitiation is acidic, plants: soil is acidic and animals: both the acid will damage vital structures and cells that the organism needs.

4.) Electronegativity. You need to know that oxygen is more electroneatve than hydrogen, so the oxygen will be slightly negative and the hydrogens will be slightly positive. This is a polar molecule because of this affect. Due to these charges, other water molecules are attracted to these charges, hydrogen bonding (+ with -). High specific heat because a single water molecule needs to break free from other water molecules surrounding it, which are attracted to it and won't let go easily.

    good luck.

  3. 1. explain why the smallest particle of iron is an atom, but the smallest particle of water is a molecule?

    More bio questions!!! yay! lol

Iron is an element. It can exist in a state composed of only Fe, one atom of iron. Water is composed of two elements- 2 Hydrogens and one Oxygen. Without all three of those atoms bonded it is no longer considered water for example OH (One Hydrogen and One Oxygen) is called Hydroxide.

    2. Explain the following statement: the temperature of the water in a teakettle is higher than the temperatue of water in a swimming pool, but the swimming pool contains more heat.

Heat is a measure of energy or in US standard terms Calories. It takes one calorie to heat one milliliter of water one degree celsius. Thus a swimming pool that is hundreds of thousands times larger than a tea kettle contains more energy and thus more heat. Consider a tea kettle containing one litter of boiling water-100 degrees celsius. This contains (1000 ml x 100 degrees celsius = 100,000 calories) Now consider a 12000 gallon swimming pool that is 20 degrees celsius (12000 gallons=45000 liters) (45000 liters=45,000,000 ml) (45,000,000 ml X 20 degrees celsius=900,000,000 calories)

    3. How does acid precipitation form? How does it injure animals? Plants?

Acid precipitate forms when water evaporates from a standing pool with a low pH or from acid rain that has fallen and evaporated. It injures plants by altering the pH of the topsoil and thus harming the plants that use the topsoil for nutrients. It injures animals by either direct contact to the strong acid or by poisoning the plants that are a source of food for these animals.

    4. Explain why water molecules are polar, how this makes them tend to bond to each other, and how this causes water to have a large heat-storage capacity

Water molecules are polar because of the bonding between oxygen and the two hydrogen atoms. This forms a natural dipole as the bond angle between the two is not 180 degrees meaning in 3d space there is an imbalance in where the atoms are arranged creating a polar effect. This slight dipole that is created forms a unique bond called a hydrogen bond where the slightly positive Hydrogen will hydrogen bond to the inherently negative oxygen atom of a separate water molecule. These bonds are rather weak but when millions of hydrogen bonds are formed they give an overall strong interaction that leads to such things as the properties of surface tension as well as specific heat. Meaning the energy input needed to break these hydrogen bonds is very great (again 1 calorie-the energy needed to heat one ml of water one degree celsius)

  4. iron is and element. water is three elements combined

    swimming pool is bigger

it evaporates with the water and precipitates with the water. it can taint thier food and water

    i dunno

  5. because you cant have water if its only made up of 1 atom

iron can exist as a natural element without having to combine with other elements

as for the rest, i cant even understand the questions

    sorry

  6. Iron is an element.

water is a combination of two elements. hydrogen and oxygen

2 more water in the pool requires more heat to raise its temp than the water inside the kettle.

3 it forms when factories release S02, SO3, NO2, NO3 into the air. these compounds mix with clouds forming acids. Then once enough acid collects as a droplet it falls causing errosion to hills, mountains, flora and some fauna

    4. Water is polar because if you draw its structure

             ..

           :O=H

                |

                H

thats the general idea, but water is polar because it is not symetrical in shape
