  1. Just explain to them that you don't eat foods that an animal had to die for.  Milk is OK because it comes from a living animal, but cheese made with rennet is not OK because a calf had to die for it.  I think it's a pretty simple distinction.  If they don't get it, don't worry about it, just do your thing.

Just as an FYI, there are rennetless cheeses and cheeses made with vegetable rennet available so that you don't have to go completely cheeseless.  Tillamook brand is available in grocery stores and says right on the side of the package whether it's made with vegetable rennet or not.

  2. Ok, while your friends don't seem to be understanding what you are saying, they may have a point. Why do you refuse to eat meat (including rennet)? I am assuming that it is due to concerns about the treatment of animals. If so, then your friends likely have a point that you should not drink milk, since the milk industry is intimately connected with the veal industry (cows have to get pregnant to produce milk, then the baby must be removed so that he/she will not drink the milk, and those baby cows become veal calves.) It seems somewhat arbitrary to only be concerned about not eating meat, but not concerned about the milk/veal connection.

If you have a different reason for abstaining from meat, then what I said may not apply.

Just something to think about. :)

  3. PEOPLE, please ignore the FAKE hollywood with the blue background.

You could tell your friends you are intolerant to cheese, that would stop them giving you a hard time about it. True friends shouldn't make you feel bad.

  4. Cheese is excellent for health!

  5. Not all cheeses have rennet, you know.

  6. Tell them to s***w off. If they won't even try to listen and understand your views, it's not even worth your time explaining them.
