I would imagine that the writer has great admiration for the resilience and strength of trees.  Unlike people who can be felled by one blow - a tree is difficult to destroy.  Trees take centuries to grow to maturity - and they don't give up the fight when death approaches...(even if you chop them down, if they lie on the ground they sometimes put out roots and feelers and grow again from a prone position)  One jab, obviously, won't do it.

    I agree with the writer - trees are an example to us all
