Question:

Exploding bullets legal?

My friend makes an exploding flare like 9mm bullets.

I shot a few and it's like it has a delayed flare like detonation about a second after it hits a target and burns for about 3-5 seconds and explodes.

What can this be made out of? Magnesium?

Is it legal to use? If it is legal and you shoot someone with it, can it be thought of as excessive force?

  1. No they are not where I live NC!*

  2. The soviets did the same in a 7.62x54r. That's what hit Simo Häyhä and ****** up his face. There not meant for single action guns and can cause serious damage to the bore and are very unsafe to use. Usually rounds like this are illegal in most cites. You can get incendiery rounds rather easily. It's just a matter of who sells it and if there are any local bans in effect. There are none on the federal level. I would think this t be legal with what other kinds of ammo one can get online.

  3. Well I know there are some that are basically halow points with an explosive sealed into the tip. Also check out "extreme shock" ammunition. Im not sure if its exactly what your buddy had but it may help and they are perfectly legal....however you will pay a bit more. Exteremeshockusa.com is for the ammo, however extremeshockammo.net shows the effects.

this is in .45ACP but they do make exploding rounds, tho I am not sure if THESE are legal

  4. i never even heard of somthing like that before.. so i'm guessing that its not legal

EDIT: you could be talking of tracer insinerary's but... thats not time delayed

  5. you can buy 9mm tracer rounds from many surplus houses.

They are illegal to discharge in many localities... just about any state will outlaw those rounds for sporting purposes.

Shooting anyone with anything could be "excessive force" if the court finds you could have retreated safely without gunplay. I am sure if you shot someone with a round like that the victims lawyer would have a feild day with the shooter in the civil phase of the case.

Where do you come up with these questions? Sounds like you have a pal who may be an idiot.

  6. They are legal to own, but not legal to hunt with, and not legal anywhere they would be considered a fire-hazard.

If you would ever use them to defend yourself, it would be used against you in court, and you will be portrayed as someone 'itching for an excuse to play executioner'

  7. First question, exploding bullets would be classified as destructive devices and therefore banned.  Sounds like you're shooting traces which can damage the bore of your gun.  They are fun to shoot but are a fire hazard.  Excessive force?  Well, it sure would be grounds for a law suit expecially if it is a wrongful death.  Prez. RR was shot with an exploding bullet that fortunately for him did not explode.  I believe the've been banned since that time.
