Exploding chances for Opinion Poll to win the Friday’s Stobart Doncaster Cup
The five year old Irish, Opinion Poll trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, is headed for Friday’s Stobart Doncaster Cup and has bright prospects of taking away the title for this event. This win would account for a third cup in the line, qualifying for a cup hat-trick.
His credits before this expected third win include coming second to Fame And Glory in the Gold Cup at York’s Lonsdale Cup and the Goodwood Cup, both of which were for distances more than two miles.
He is all set and excited about making his mark and revising an already commendable record of staying prizes.
He is one of the most promising participants in the race at Doncaster as he sustains the highest official rating of the eight runners but is also up for facing some stiff competition on the track as among the rivals there is Ebor second Tactitian and Motrice,
who in a race 12 months back was third.
Queen’s stayer Tactician can be a potential threat as the dauntless ride was the runner-up at the Ebor with a slipped saddle.
He almost won that race had young O’Brien failed to outrun him in the second half of the race.
The other fierce rival is who needs not be underestimated is Motrice who was able to attract attention while striding away with the March Stakes at Goodwood last month.
Since then her progress has been quite impressive and this half sister to Foreign Affairs possibly has it in mind to attack future targets.
Besides them the other rich and refined talent lined up includes Blue Bajan who finished just behind Opinion Poll on the last three occasions and the trainer David O’Meara is all anxious to give him another go.
The third in the Lonsdale Cup at York last month, the Gary Moore trained Bergo, is also part of the lot.
Inclusion of sole Irish raider Saddler’s Rock from John Oxx’s stable and Lydia Pearce mare Dayia puts on the complete show for Friday.
The ability of Opinion Poll to actually make a hat-trick is not being doubted the least bit but then again the other candidates themselves are up for winning the show too so not getting over confident about the win and underestimating the competition can
really be harmful.
