Explosive Training?

I'm a rugby player and I find that my weakest aspect is explosive running. I carry almost no smashing force when it comes to crashing the ball, and I'd like to know how to 'pack a punch' when sprinting for that 2 or 3 metres.

Can anybody tell me a few good exercises to increase my sprinting speed and power over short-medium distances?

  1. Jammer Extensions are great for explosiveness.  Also olympic weightlifting like hang cleans or hang snatch.  If you do not have access to a gym then just do sprints, only run about ten yards.  Remember the harder you go during the sprints the fast you will get.  If you dedicate yourself to 30- 45 mins. a day you will see huge improvements in the first two month then it will be harder to improve.  Also, keep in mind 90% of hitting is mental.  If you have the mind set you will do great things.
