does a long cord use more electricity then a short cord

  1. I would say yes, as they have a higher resistance. But keep in mind that there are greater resistance losses in your building wiring anyway (before the electricity even gets to your wall socket).

    Also, *extension* cable manufacturers suggest you don't keep them wound up when in use as it can create a weak inductor.


  2. Sort of.  All cords have resistance, which causes a drop in voltage.  Most of the time it is small and of no consequence.  However if the cord is long enough the voltage drop could become big enough to cause whatever you are powering to see less voltage than is optimum.

  4. no, but if you put them in line, the longer it gets you will have voltage drop and it will start to get hot, and depending on what you have plugged in, it may not function properly or burn up the equipment.
