Extend phone line - 4 wires existing phone line are different colours to new cable, what goes where?

i have a broken phone line and i am going to extend it - the cable i am using to extend it has different coloured wires to the existing cable - what coloured wire corresponds to the other - any advice or weblinks to assist - thanks

  1. If you have a standard single phone line, it only uses 2 of the wires.  If there's a red and a green wire those are the one's you need.  You don't need to connect the other 2 wires.


  2. The color doesn't make any difference  as long as you match it on each end. For instance, a blue wire on the new cable is connected to a red wire on the old cable. On the other end, connect blue of the new to the red of the old. Remember

    , you are connecting copper to copper and the colors is just insulation.
