Question:

Extend video time, or camera to VCR?

I have a Panasonic Palmcorder Palmsight, I know its pretty old but better than nothing. I want to see what is going on at the house while I am at work. My first issue is that the tapes for the camcorder are at tops 2 hrs long. Is their a way I can get it to only record when it picks up movement? Or a timer I can set for it to record when the boyfriend gets home? Also, I want to figure out a way for it to record straight to a vhs in through the vcr. This would give me a 6 to 8 hour range, or possibly even more to work with. I have tried a couple of things, like recording straight to the vcr with or without a tape in the camcorder, and have so far been unable to get any of the above to work. I have looked over the manual and it really doesn't get into this type of thing - it just gives general use, etc.

If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it! Maybe I missing a detail or something.

THANKS!

  1. To record straight to the vcr, connect the camcorder's AV OUT, to vcr's AV IN, on the vcr(blank tape inside). You should now be able to get a video feed on the TV screen. Press record on the vcr, not the camcorder(no tape inside). If you need more than eight hours you will have to buy a "time-lapse video recorder", they are used for security and are able to record much longer than a standard vcr. The only other thing I would suggest is an IP cam, some are wireless and they can record straight to your hard drive for many hours(free space permitting). They can be triggered to record by motion and can even be view and controlled remotely from another computer, pda, or smart phone. Good Luck!
