Question:

Extended breastfeeding resources and support?

Honestly, I know that a lot of people in our society are pretty closed-minded but I'm considering breastfeeding longer than 1 year and would like to know where I can find information (besides kellymom) and if there are any websites out there with forums or support for extended breastfeeders. My STBH is aware of my decision but I know that once others realize it will probably be looked down on. (I already caught a ton of flack for wanting to exclusively breastfeed and cloth diapering - apparently these things aren't appropriate) I think it'll be a lonely road (I don't know of anyone else especially in this area who breastfeeds) and think that it'll come with it's own set of challenges that I'd like to talk with others about. (How to handle the naysayers, tandem nursing, how to deal with others if your child is the 'oddkidout' due to extended bfing, etc...)

  1. I'm a member of milkdrunk, an AP group of "extended" breastfeeders.  It's a Yahoo group.  Come check it out!  :)

  2. Babycenter has an extended BFing board.  And check out your local La Leche League meetings. They usually have women who are BFing toddlers and preschoolers.

  3. Check out the forums at Mothering.com.  You'll have lots of company, as well as support and information.
