What would I do in order to try and stay in Italy for about a

year without obtaining citizenship?

  1. It depends on where you're coming from. If you're an EU citizen, you have the right to move and work within the EU. If you're not an EU citizen, you'll need a visa for an extended stay.

    There's information on visas on the Italian Ministry website. http://www.esteri.it/visti/home_eng.asp The type of visa you'll need depends on where you're from and whether you'll be working here. If you want to work in Italy, you'll need a visa that permits that.

    I've been here for several years, but moved ere with my job. Even with that the initial paperwork took some months to process.
