If I am going on a week cruise but want to stay longer in the port before and after, will carnival or travel agents set it up so that you can. Or will the flights be right before and right after the cruise? would you have to pay extra for an extended flight?

Thanks

  1. Yes you can do this - my advise is to NOT book your airline tickets through the cruise line.  They normally a LOT higher then if you book your own flights through the airline.  You can find out from your travel agent want Hotels the cruise line recommends in the ports, and either have her just book those, or do it yourself.

We were going to book our flights one time through RC and they quoted us $600 roundtrip each to MIAMI!!!  We got tickets on our own for $179.00 per person - round trip.  AND, the cruise line will almost never give you a non-stop flight.

  2. you can set it up with your travel agent if that is how you will be booking your flight, or through the airline directly if you get your plane tix that way. there will be no extra charge for extending your stay. regular fares apply.

  3. If you have not already booked the cruise I would suggest you use Travelocity. They have a nice set up that allows you to mix hotel (before and after) with the flight and the cruise as well as make ground transportation arrangements. I used it when I sailed the Conquest out of New Orleans (just before Katrina) and we stayed in New Orleans for three day after the cruise. It worked out flawlessly.

  4. There is no extra charge for the extra stays other than the hotel rooms.  But if you travel on different days the airfare could possibly be a little different.  Many cruises lines do offer pre and post cruise hotel stays.  You just have to look at their cruise information, usually under "land tours" to find out if they have a recommended hotel.

I have done what you are planning a couple times.  I made my cruise reservations, then made air res, then made hotel and transportation reservations, all right on line.  You can do it all yourself, or have a travel agent do it.  The agent's services are free, except some may now charge a $10 fee for making air arrangements.  They are paid by the cruise line and hotel for the other reservations.

  5. Your travel agent can do that without a problem. They can probably also book your hotel and car for the extra days, although I usually do it myself. I almost always tack on a few days to the beginning or end to see the sights where ever i cruise out of
