Our wireless internet is transmitted from downstairs, I don't have an ethernet port in my room which is upstairs, it is a huge house so I get very little signal from up here, Is there something I can buy to extend it?

  1. A more powerful router may help.

  2. If you are just needing to extend the 802.11b/g range then purchase the Airport Express from Apple. Otherwise extending the 802.11g is not possible right now, but you also normally don't need to extend it because it extends so much further.

  3. You can also get powerline range extenders.  They are much simpler to setup, and they will give you better performance.  They are not cheaper though.  Check this out:

You can even ditch wireless completely by going with powerline.  All of the major networking manufacturers sell powerline from LInksys to D-Link, Zyxel, Belkin, Netgear, and Panasonic.  You can research them at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

  4. You can purchase a repeater / extender

    LINKSYS WRE54G Wireless-G Range Extender

Zoom Telephonics 4400 Wireless Access Point+Adapter+Repeater

    ENCORE ENRXWI-G IEEE802.11g 54Mbps Wireless LAN Extender

Any of those or similar items should work.
