Do you pain the trim or main part first? (our trim is white, house light brown)

When using a paint sprayer is it always neccessary to cover windows with plastic, or will not getting to close be sufficient (we'd use a brush around the edges)?

  1. Paint the trim first, then cut-in the light brown

  2. I would prefer to spray the light brown areas first, which is the largest areas. If you use a narrow pattern tip in your sprayer you can just use large pcs. of thin cardboard to hold against the trim, windows, etc., as you work your spray pattern against them. Start at the top and work down so you don't have to worry about putting your ladders against fresh paint. Don't let sprayer sit idel, be prepared to put on two to three gallons of paint per session.

Make sure you caulk first. Use a good painters caulk. A good paint job starts with a good caulk job, Especially around the front door.

Don't gob on the caulk but use a thin bead, wet your fingertip and immediately smooth out the caulk by running your wet fingertip down the bead of caulk - have some clean rags handy.

Cut in trim with a roller on the flat parts and a sash brush on the edges.

Again start at the top.You don't need to use new roller or wash out brushes if you stop, just wrap roller(leave it on the carriage) in an old plastic k-mart,lowes sack. Wrap around tight to keep air out, do same with your brushes.Don't let sprayer sit more than 1 hour.

Get all your supplies ready to go - I hate helping someone do a job and we spend half the morning rounding up supplies.

Take your time-do a good job.
