External Hard Drive Software?

Is there any software for windows xp which will make an external hard drive stop spinning when not in use.

Also is LaCie a good brand of external hard drives?

As for software, i have no idea. Sorry for the unhelpful answer to that.

However I answered to warn you. I owned a 1TB LaCie external drive which i used to back up video. I had it coping nearly 12gigs of video and the drive got so hot it actually MELTED the velcro i had keeping it secured to the top of the computer. Needless to say, i returned it.
