Are mutual funds and other large buyers of stocks buying or selling the stock?-this will cause the stock to rise or drop quickly due to the volume being bought or sold by these giants.If a large amount of the stock is sold  short and the price of the stock starts to rise then the shorts will have to be covered-they will have to buy back the stock causing the price to go up even more. Most importantly the general trend of the market. Most stocks will follow this trend. The industry group the stock is in is very important. If the group is in favor almost all stocks in that group will go up, if out of favor almost all will go down or not move. Economic reports will cause the overall market to go up or down and more than likely individual stock will follow this trend.


  2. Too numerous to count. Political events, natural disasters, wars, etc. An endless list of things not directly related to the market but affect it.
