Can i phone up a hospital and ask for another ultrasound baby scan?

I had my first one really early and would like another for my own piece of mind. I live in Milton Keynes, i dont mind paying for this scan but im not sure if Milton keynes on any hospitals close by can do this? Im aware i can do this privately but im already doing a 3d/4d one and they are quite expensive. Any info would be great. Thanks x

  1. I had scans at 6 weeks (to confirm not ectopic) 12 weeks (can't remember why). 14 weeks (along with tripple test for Downes). 17 weeks (to determine s*x)  23 weeks (anomaly scan) 30 weeks (to check placenta no longer across cervix)  34 weeks (growth scan). That was NHS. WHat more do you need. Yes - it's exciting and comforting to see the baby but totally uneccessary, soon enough the baby will be born and you'll be able to see it every day. So long as the doctors are happy the foetus is developing well there is no reason to keep having scans.

  2. If you've had an internal one(early to check on the pregnancy) then you should still get them at 12 & 20 weeks (or thereabouts) thats what happened with me and my healthcare lot would do as few scans as possible if they could get away with it. Also you may get a later scan depending on the growth of the baby (I never got that far as my baby was prem at 34 weeks)

  3. They will only allow you more scans if they think that there may be a problem, ive tried to get more, and it didnt work lol.

I had my 12 weeks one, my 20 week, a 21 weeks to check the placenta had moved cuz it was low on the first one. 32 weeks and 36 weeks to check the growth of my little girl as well, i am 40 weeks on fri so i think im best just hangin on a lil bit longer to see her now!!!

Hope all goes well for u x

  4. You normally get one around 12 and 20 weeks.  you don't say how far you are gone now or when your first one was but if you haven't got a 20 week one booked you should have. call your midwife.

  5. If you had a really early internal scan then you should still recieve your 12 week and 20 week as normal - I did (Cardiff), I'd speak to your midwife and she can arrange for you

  6. More than likely you will have to pay for it as your insurance won't cover it.

You should call your doctor to set up the appointment for you though - not just a hospital.

If you already had an ultrasound and things were good, and you are getting a 3D/4D ultrasound - I wouldn't bother paying for another one.  As long as you hear a heart beat (and you should every time you go to the docs), you should be fine.  An ultrasound isn't going to tell you anything new.
