  1. It's not a hardcore workout, but I when you first get there you have to push for everything letters included.  It's just to get you into shape.  It's not like he'll be free from physical activity if you don't write to him.  So go ahead, send three a day, it'll only make him stronger.

  2. That was the case when I was in Marine Corps Boot camp. Believe me, though, he'll be so happy to get the letters, the extra PT won't matter at all. One of the recruits in my boot camp platoon got a letter from his father (who was a Major in the Corps) and on the outside of the envelope it said: "Hope the letter is worth the push-ups!" The Drill Instructor laughed the entire time he was doing what were called "Bends and mother-_______" (also known as eight-count push-ups.

  3. I never heard that one, but letters are life blood for all GIs.  Keep writing.

  4. the "smoking" is all in good fun.....everyone getting mail gets ribbed a time or two.....it is part of the experience.

My thoughts: Taking a little heat for mail made the mail mean more than it already did.

  5. My husband is a drill sgt. They routinely smoke soldiers for the following reasons:

The wrong color ink, lipstick marks on enevelope, stupid girly c**p on enevelope, x's and o's etc.

My husband got smoked when he was a pvt because I always used a blue pen.
