Hello, I'm buying from Japan, and I'm taking the economy air shipping. My package will be split into 2 packages or so. But they are the same order. Because of the 2 packages, would I have to pay extra for duties and taxes for BOTH packages? or will it be counted as one??

  1. If the 2 packages are being re shipping by air freight/air cargo then the answer is no, there will be no additional charge for one or more pieces.

There is one control document, called an air waybill and the goods will be cleared by Customs as one shipment, regardless of the number of pieces.

If they arrive by air freight/cargo there will be two charges:

You will have to pay any duty/taxes assigned by Customs, based on the total value of the items, as described on the invoice that your shipper should include with the shipment, and/or send to you separately.

You will have to pay a terminal handling fee, which is based on weight, but is subject to a minimum charge. All airlines charge these fees.

If you are using a freight forwarder, there will still be terminal fees.

You can ask  the airline or forwarder that you plan to use about their handling fees..

    .

  2. Duties and taxes are based on the value of the items, not the packaging.  You MAY be charged an additional handling/brokerage fee, but not likely, since it will all be handled as one order.
