Extracurricular Activities??!?

How much do the extracurriculars matter just when applying to college? I am in high school and have been doing music for years now but want to add a couple of more activities but I'm just curious- how much do they matter and if they do how many would be needed. This is assuming there already are solid grades and standardized test scores. Any useful info would be appreciated

  1. Sometimes they can be what gets you in over someone else with the same scores.  It also depends on the university.  Most public universities have a window that is guaranteed admission.  If you qualify, your extracurriculars really won't matter for that.  Check the admission requirements for the university you want to attend.  However, those extracurriculars will mean a lot when it comes to getting scholarships that are not financially based.  There is no magic number, but I would stick with groups or activities that go with what you plan to do with your life.  If you are already doing music, see if there is clubs that go with this besides the band, choir, orchestra, etc.  Join the club for the foreign language you are taking.  This shows that you are multicultural.  I also suggest checking out the Rotary Club and Student Council.
