Extreme Sailing Series 2011 heads to Singapore for last Act on Marina Bay waters: Sailing news
Ninth and final Act of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series is set to be commence from December 7-11 in Singapore, where ten-team Extreme 40 fleet will set sail on Marina Bay waters. Singapore is one of the ideal places for Extreme Sailing Series and will provide
an outstanding start to the regatta. As far as the competition itself is concerned, there is going to be a thrilling battle to clinch the season title.
Until Act 7, France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild dominated the circuit leaderboard but they tumbled down to second spot after a low performance in the eight act at Almeria, Spain. They were replaced by Italy’s Luna Rossa led by Max Sirena, who put up an
excellent show in Almeria to grab the second podium spot in the end.
The Extreme 40 fleet will feature two new entries from France and Switzerland along with the regular teams of Groupe Edmond de Rothschild, Oman Air, Luna Rossa, Team GAC Pindar, Emirates Team New Zealand, Red Bull Extreme Sailing, The Wave Muscat and Alinghi.
One of the new teams Team Extreme - the first club, is supported by Stéphane Kandler, SOITEC and the first club. The team has a strong French crew comprising of Sébastien Col, Jean-Christophe Mourniac, Franck Citeau and Christophe André along with Bruno
Dubois as the team manager.
Speaking to the media, Stéphane Kandler said, “I’m very glad to help this crew to step into this catamaran top-level circuit. The goal being to have a long-term view and to continue for the 2012 season and beyond, as it is a real opportunity for the future.
Sailing multihulls is really becoming a ‘must-have’ regatta format. We have then decided to follow this logic, as it is important to focus on all the high level sailing formats, which is what we’ve been doing since 20 years.”
The second team will be Alex Schneiter’s Team Tilt, who debuted at Act 8 in Almería. The Swiss team will be led by Schneiter and the crew includes Nicolas Heintz, Charles Favre and Arnaud Psarofaghis.
