Tim Tebow is one of the most popular football players in the National Football League (NFL) after his exploits with the Denver Broncos in the 2011-12 season, however, the quarterback was shocked that he was so popular that a couple bid $ 100,000 to spend
a day with the quarterback.
The bid came during a gala event on Friday which announced the start of the second annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic.
The golf tournament is a fundraising event for the quarterback’s foundation and all proceeds will be used by the charity in its work to improve the lives of youngsters.
Tebow was shocked at the huge bid he received from the couple whose identities have not been revealed and said.
"It was very humbling, and you don't necessarily feel worthy. That day I feel like I've got to do a few extra things to be special, you know? I've got to try to be a little bit better."
The couple plan to spend their day with the quarterback by helping out the less fortunate kids in their neighbourhood.
Erik Dellenback, the executive director for the foundation said about the bid.
“They live in a part of town that has a lot of people in need and a lot of people with a lot of wealth. It sounds like she’s going to have a little event where she brings some of the kids who are in need and some of the kids who are deserving.”
The couple have previously also given money to Tebow’s foundation and the quarterback is expecting to have a great time spending the day with the couple.
“It’ll be a lot of fun. They’re a very special family as far as how they’ve supported the foundation.”
This has been quite a year for the 24-year-old quarterback who has become an icon across America for his never-say-die attitude during games.
Tebow led the Broncos to the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title after turning around what seemed to be a lost season while also helping them secure a playoff berth.
The Broncos exciting win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard round of the playoffs was the highlight of Tebow’s season as he sent an 80-yard pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas in overtime to win the game.
Traded to the New York Jets in the offseason the quarterback is now preparing to help his new team in their own bid for the playoffs.
