Question:

Extreme dizziness from dialysis?

My father, 77, has been on dialysis for about two months. He is always exhausted and weak afterwards, and although it bothers him, his biggest complaint is that he is so dizzy he can't even stand. This is everyday, not only after dialysis. If he does get up, he has to use a walker, and usually can't stand for longer than 5 minutes at a time. It is breaking my heart to see him like this, as he used to be so full of life and energy before dialysis. The dizziness is affecting him so much, that I'm afraid he is becoming depressed. Of course, we have talked to his dialysis nurses about this, and he was put on a medication for vertigo, but it is not helping. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is there anything we can do to make him comfortable and functional? Please help- I love my father so much and can't bare to see him like this.

  1. i have PKD and i fear dialysis for the simple reason that many ppl on it dont last long they pass in less than 7 years, not everycase is like this and im not saying this will happen but im trying to say that maybe the thought alone is depressing him, im young and im somtimes depressed because it is very stressfull to go through it not knowing what can happen or even knowing what to expect. You can try to cheer him up and have him realize he still has his life to live and its not anywhere near over. Im sure a good conversation can help. As for the dizziness did the doctor mention if its normal? Im sure anyone would be dizzy after your blood is sucked out and back into ure body but maybe its somthing serious.
