Extreme nausea....please help!!?

I saw a ? on Women's Health. The asker stated that she feels really nauseous when she skips a meal or wakes up. She was asking if these symptoms were those of diabetes.

This worried me. I had never thought of my nausea as a serious thing. Here's my story: if I skip a meal, I become extremely nauseous. Not even hungry....just nauseous. Sometimes in the morning, I will gag in the shower. Just standing there...I don't know. I feel sick and will gag but no actual vomit comes out. It's really weird. I remember one time last spring I gagged about 6 times in a row. I fell on the floor.

I am extremely tired...all the time. Even in the summer, when I got plenty of sleep, I would be EXHAUSTED the next day. Just other things that might be able to help you figure out what's goin on: I have suffered from depression for quite some time, and I have IBS. I take Zoloft and an acne med called Minocycline. I will take Immodium when I have loose stools.

Now I don't know how exactly people are tested for diabetes, I'm assuming a blood sample is involved. I have had blood drawn (I believe it was in January) and the results came back perfectly fine. So that's why I'm here!! My uncle has diabetes (I believe it is type 1)

Any information that is helpful would be greatly appreciated!

  1. WELL...the fatigue can be due to the medication that you are on.  The nausea can be due to a lot of things.  I wouldnt ask people online..I would simply call your physician (whom knows the MOST about you medically) and ask him.  He would be able to give you the best clues as to why you might be doing this.  The blood work you did probably didnt have a screening for diabetes.  Most of the time..when you are taking an antidepressant, they ask you to do routine blood work to look at liver/kidney..etc..the diabetes check is seperate..CALL YOUR DOCTOR.  Make sure you tell him that the diabetes issue has been weighing on your mind, and state your case.  Together you can make the best decision as to where you will go next!  GOOD LUCK!!

  2. You probably need to have a chat with your physician.  It's possible that your nausea is a side affect of your medications.  Let your doctor know about that and perhaps s/he'll adjust the medication or change it.  And you might mention that you're concerned about being diabetic.  The way to check for that is with a blood test.

It's best not to add to your worries with suspicions and fears which just exaggerate your stress and physical condition, chat with your doctor and get some mental relief.
