Question:

Extreme pain after root canal!?

I was the recent recipient of a my first root canal. Due to this fact, I am unaware of the depth of pain I am supposed to be feeling. I was prescribed Tylenol 3- except it doesn't seem to be working. The pain comes and goes, but when it comes it is ferocious!! I called the dentist, and he said he could not prescribe me anything stronger. When I called I wasn't looking for another prescription- I was afraid there was something wrong. SO MUCH PAIN!! How do I know if there is something wrong? Thank you to everyone who responds!

  1. Sounds like you may have an infection. The Dentist must see you if you are in pain and may possibly have to extract/re-do the root canal.

  2. i have a root canal scheduled and the dentist told me you should feel pain after but not for more than 7 days. i always wanted to know if getting a root canal hurts.. did it hurt during the procedure??

  3. Oh god i have a root canal sept 10. I'm interested to see the answers!

  4. Ahhhh i'm having two permanent teeth pulled next week !!!! They said i might have to get a root canal.... Does it hurt? If so how much and for how long?    The permanent teeth and the root canal.....T_T

  5. When i got my first root canal, the dentist prescribed me tylenol 3 also. The pain will be hurtful but nothing is wrong. if it still bothers you for more than a week then you should be worried. Also i do remember the tylenol seemed to not work ,but on the other hand i dont think the pain lasted for more than 3 or 4 days.

  6. have the tooth xrayed. it could still have some root in it or the crown could not be in properly. anyway, there is some nerve damage. go make a visit and have an xray. until then keep salt water wash and some oral gel.
