Question:

Extreme pain after wisdom teeth extraction.?

I got my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday, and while I've had some pain, it's been tolerable. Starting yesterday, when the worst of the surgery pain started to fade, I've been getting extreme pain radiated throughout my jaw on the side I've gotten the teeth removed. It' radiates throughout my gum and teeth, not even focusing on the extraction site, and the pain is worse than when I first finished surgery. What is up? Is this normal or an infection or do I need to see my dentist?

  1. Sounds like you might have a dry socket.  That is caused by the blood clot being disturbed in the wound.  There is no cure, and it will go away in several days.

  2. You might be experiencing "dry sockets" which is exremely painful.  You need to contact the dentist who extracted you teeth and he can pac it and you should experience relief quickly. It could also be a infection.  Take your temperature, try Motrin or Aleve and call the dentist.  Good luck.

  3. Yes, you need to see your dentist as acute pain after 3-4 days of extraction is not good. It can be dry socket which is quite painful and is due to the infection. Your oral surgeon will give you some medicines and give the dressing in that area. You can check the complications of wisdom tooth extraction at the following link

you can have even free consultation from dentist.

  4. Might be a dry socket.  The dentist can take care of it if it is.  Call the dentist ASAP because the pain can last for weeks if you don't.

  5. i would definetly call the dentist's office and ask this question; you may have what they call a dry socket, but they would surely answer you over the phone.  Hope you feel better soon.

  6. MIGHT be dry sockets, call your surgeon.
