My eyes have been extremly itchy for the past week and a half and i can't stop rubbing them! there is sometimes mucousy stringy things (gross, yes) that i can sometimes get out but it always feels like there are things in my eyes under the eye lids and sometimes it is just mucousy like stuff... it could be an allergy but i have no idea to what as i haven't changed anything in my life lately and have no known allergies. What can i do to relieve the itching and also, anyone know what the mucousy stuff is and why it's there? thanks to anyone who can help.

  1. benadryl can decrease the itching and you might have an eye infection (it might be pus leaking out of your eyes)

    Go to doctor

  2. You may have an eye infection, but if you are having a mucousy discharge in both eyes it's most likely either and allergy or a some kind of chemical irritation. I'm guessing the mucousy stuff is probably due to inflammation and irritation.

I have developed the exact same problem. I have never had a problem with allergies before this spring/summer either.

I went to the doctor and she prescribed my Patanol eye drops. They are very expensive, but there is an alternative called Ketotifen that recently went over the counter that my pharmacist recommended I try before shelling out a ton of money for the Patanol. I have only been using the Ketotifen for about a day, so it's too early to tell if it is working.
